“OUTSTANDING GRADUATING SENIOR 2003”

MICHAEL DAHILIG, GEOLOGY AND GEOPHYSICS
Michael’s honors thesis is on an issue that has justifiably attracted a considerable amount of attention on Oahu the last few years - the position of the state on slope stability issues. This bears on many recent incidents such as those at Sacred Falls, Makapuu, Hawaii Kai, Makaha Valley, Nuuanu Valley, and the North Shore. The thesis research is on an important topic of broad interest, it is comprehensive, and he can solidly support his conclusions. He has done a truly fine job thoroughly investigating the state regulations. If his thesis receives attention, it could make a major difference in spurring the state to address an issue that poses both a public safety hazard and that has cost the state tens of millions of dollars over the last few years alone.

In addition, Michael has maintained his status on the Dean's list while doing his research. He has been the ASUH president this past year, which has entailed an enormous amount of work, including appearances at the State Legislature on behalf of UH and its students.

Next year he will be attending the Richardson School of Law.
