SPOTLIGHT 2000
Leigh Ann Higa is the recipient of the "Premier Graduate,
2000, UH Manoa Honors Program." Leigh Ann graduates with
High Honors in Biology, but she also has a second major, English.
This talented student from Kalani High School won a Regent's
Scholarship to attend Manoa, and her double major testifies
to her versatility and broad interests. Along with the award
from the Honors Program, she has also won a Barry M. Goldwater
scholarship and was an Honorable Mention for a National Science
Foundation Fellowship. Leigh Ann this fall will be attending
the Yale Graduate Program in Pharmacology and Molecular Medicine,
which allows students to earn both an M.D. and a Ph.D. On
her decision to go to grad school on the east coast, Leigh
Ann says, "One of the reasons that I chose to go Yale
was that they give students a year to decide on the specifics
of their studies in terms of one degree or two. Right now
I am not sure about earning both degrees, but I am excited
about being part of a program that offers such an opportunity." |
