Welcome to Honors Advising!

The Honors Program delivers advising that moves with you as you navigate the University and the Honors program. When you receive advising from Honors, you can expect:

  • Assistance with understanding University and Honors requirements
  • Registration assistance, including priority access to Honors courses each semester
  • Support with clarifying your goals
  • Accurate information about programs, services, and available resources
  • Appropriate referrals as needed
  • Challenge and support as you develop an academic and personal plan
  • Illustration of how Honors fits into your plan
  • Friendly, available advisors who will cheer you on in your journey towards excellence!

As an Honors student, you are expected to engage in advising every semester. A hold will be placed on your registration; once you have attended your advising appointment, the hold will be removed. Please note: if you are not on a traditional Fall to Spring academic calendar, we will work with you to ensure that you receive relevant advising in a timely manner.

What can YOU do to get the most from your advising appointment?
  • Prepare for your appointment. Bring a list of the questions you have for the advisor.
  • Bring a copy of your STAR advising report with you.
  • See your major advisor. He/she will review major-specific requirements, help you determine courses choices most aligned with your interests, and assist in connecting your major with career fields.
  • Keep an advising folder in which you put ALL of your advising materials and bring it to every appointment/session.
  • Follow up on recommendations your advisor makes.
  • Take ownership. Your advisor will be there to support you, but this is YOUR academic journey!

Spring
The Planning for Intellectual Inquiry (PI`I) session for sophomores is designed to prepare you for the upcoming semester’s registration and support your development of an academic plan. If you are like most Honors sophomores, you attended a Planning for Intellectual Inquiry (PI`I) group session at the end of your freshman year. Attending your second session will allow you to update your progress and plan. We will also review the application process and curriculum requirements for upper division Honors. You will attend this session just prior to the fall registration period. A follow up individual advising session is recommended for maximum effectiveness.
