INCOMING FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS
 

Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa and to the Honors Program!  We know that you have a lot of questions and are eager to get started for the Fall 2009 semester, so let's get started...

 

To Prepare for Registering

Firstly - If you do not have a UH Username/ID please follow this link to obtain them.  You will need this to complete the Online Honors Orientation and Advising (HOA) session described below.  Additionally, all future Honors communications will be sent only to UH email addresses.  If you have difficulty obtaining your UH Username/ID, please contact ITS as indicated on the website.  Unfortunately the Honors Program will not be able to help in this area.  The sooner one completes the Online HOA, the sooner you can register for Honors courses with Paige Wilmeth, the Selected Studies Advisor.  Therefore it is for your benefit that you obtain a UH Username/ID as soon as possible.

    Once you have obtained a UH Username/ID, please e-mail honors@hawaii.edu with your UH Email Address and Student ID number so we can grant you access to the Online HOA.

 

Secondly - The Online HOA session is available from July 1st - August 3rd.  This mandatory session will provide you with the basics for registration and enable you to sign up for Honors courses as soon as you complete the orientation.  Although you have until August 3rd, we recommend you complete it as soon as possible to have the most access to available Honors courses to be better prepared for registration.

To complete the Online HOA, you must do the following:

    1. Log in to laulima.hawaii.edu with your UH username and password

    2. Click on the upper tab that reads MAN_HOA_Online

    3. Once on the HOA site, click on 'Resources' tab on the left side of the site.  This will bring you to an informational powerpoint that you must review.  It is a lengthy powerpoint with lots of information, so be sure to do this when you have some time to dedicate to it.

    4. When you feel confident that you know the information from the powerpoint, click on the 'Tasks, Tests, and Surveys' tab on the left.  You will find a quiz called the 'HOA Online Quiz.'  Following the instructions, please complete the quiz.  Once you have completed it with 100% accuracy, you will be able to sign up for Honors courses.  We will verify that you have completed the quiz before we assign you spaces in Honors courses.

 

Thirdly - You must sign up for and attend an In-Person HOA.  The dates and times are listed below.  Simply email us at honors@hawaii.edu or call (808) 956-8391 to reserve a space in the session of your choice.  You will be eligible for Honors' priority registration only when you have signed up for and attended the In-Person HOA.  (Those attending the August 20th session will register for classes online prior to the In-Person HOA.)

New Student Orientation (NSO)
