STUDENT AMBASSADORS
What
are the Honors Student Ambassadors?
The Honors Student Ambassadors represent the Honors Program
to the University and community, and especially to
prospective Honors students. They
provide a student’s perspective and generally promote college
life, the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and, of course, the
Honors Program! They may accompany the Director on trips to
local high schools during recruitment events; they may host
prospective students on visits to our campus; they usually
participate in new student orientation; they may be asked to
answer inquiries made by email; and they may be asked to
represent the Honors Program at special events.

In addition, student representatives on university committees are typically drawn from the ranks of the Honors Student Ambassadors, and they may represent the Honors Program to legislators at the State Capitol.
Honors Students Ambassadors have represented Honors by the following:
-
sharing their Honors Story at "Rainbow Night;"
-
presenting at the the New Student Orientation Resource Fair
-
participating in the High School Counselor's workshop
-
attending the "Manoa Experience"
-
giving joint Powerpoint presentations at Rainbow Night at Kamehameha Schools
-
representing students on the VCAA's Honors Taskforce Committee
-
lobbying legislators to include appropriations for Honors in the biennium budget
Becoming an Honors Student Ambassador
Remember you will represent the Honors Program, so we are looking for students with commitment and passion for the Honors Program, as well as good presentation skills. You should be at least in your sophomore year and be in good standing in the Honors Program. It is a distinct advantage, but not essential, to have taken HON 380, Peer Mentoring (pdf). We will provide orientation and training for those who are interested.
If you would like to be an Ambassador and hone your "diplomatic" skills, please contact the Director (jgoss@hawaii.edu).
