Bio:

My main area of research and publication is in the geographies of consumption and popular culture, particularly the interpretation of landscapes of shopping and tourism.  I also write about landscapes in film. Since my dissertation research on squatting in Metro Manila, I maintain an active interest in urban ecology and property rights in Southeast Asia.  I have recently been involved in a project rethinking area studies, and I am co-editor of a forthcoming book entitled “Remaking Area Studies: Teaching and Learning Across Asia and the Pacific.” I have been Director of the Honors Program since August 2007.

cultural geography; urban geography; film; Southeast Asia
