Draft Memorandum of Understanding
If your advisee is not a major in your own department, it is a good idea to have an agreement with the Chair of his/her major department, similar to the one following:

RE: Robert Plant
Honors candidate
Robert Plant is studying for an Honors degree in Anthropology while Professor Smith, of Ethnobotany, is advisor on his Senior Honors Project. The project as proposed satisfies the requirements of the Department of Anthropology and Professor Smith is aware of the standards expected in the field. We feel that he is fully qualified to judge the quality of the proposed Senior Honors Project on behalf of the Department of Anthropology.
