Schedule for Senior Honors Project
1. Early in first semester: advisor and student sketch a tentative schedule of meetings to discuss tasks and deadlines for completing the thesis. This schedule, though flexible, should take the student right up to the final submission deadline, which normally is the last day of classes in the second semester.
2. Throughout both semesters: maintain regular contact. If the student is not keeping meetings or deadlines, please inform the Director of the Honors Program immediately.
3. As first semester ends: complete progress form for first semester (HON 496 001) and turn it in to Honors Program (see form “Adviser’s Progress Report for HON 496”).
4. Early in second semester: discuss with student potential members for the thesis committee and choose two faculty members who would be appropriate.
5. No later than the 4th week of the second semester: sign form that informs Honors Program of thesis committee members (see form, “Honors Thesis Committee”).
6. No later than the 10th week of second semester: adviser sees a complete rough draft. Suggestions can be made for one more revision before giving the complete thesis to other committee members.
7. No later than the 12th week of second semester: the committee receives a “final” draft.
8. The 13th or 14th week of second semester: thesis committee meeting. At this face-to-face meeting, individual assessments should be discussed and synthesized into a consensus designation for thesis. The committee may wish to give a conditional evaluation contingent upon changes to be made in the project before final submission. In that case, it is the advisors’ responsibility to ensure that such changes are made.
9. 15th week of second semester: bound copies of final version of thesis due to Honors Program. If this is not possible student and adviser should request an extension from the Director as soon as the need is apparent (see form, “Request for Extension of Honors Thesis Submission Deadline”).
10. As the second semester ends: adviser turns in letter grade for Honors 496.
11. No later than two weeks after the end of second semester: formal committee evaluation due to Honors Program. Adviser synthesizes individual assessments into consensual report that each committee member should sign (see form, “Evaluation of Senior Honors Thesis”).
