The Honors Program has been in continuous service since 1960. In these many years, it has matured into a robust program that aims to help students get the most out of their years at UH Manoa. Students entering the Honors Program as freshmen or sophomores usually begin their jouney in Selected Studies. In most cases, as students conclude their sophomore year, they may then formally enter the second half of the program: Upper Division Honors. Students who apply at a junior and senior standing, or transfer students, also enter into Upper Division Honors. The Honors Program has also worked with different departments on campus to develop Honors Tracks; these tracks allow students to participate in major-specific courses and to get a more focused experience while completing their Honors studies.
Below you will find a wealth of information about the Honors Program curriculum, as well as the most up-to-date listing of which A-Section and Honors courses are currently on offer.
The Honors Program and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) host three major research events each year: Fall Forum, Spring Symposium, and Proposal Conference. These events give Upper Division students the opportunity to present their research in a professional and academic format to professors, faculty, fellow students, and the greater community.
What standards do we set? Find out what our program stands for in the three pages below.
The Honors Program offers a wide range of opportunities for students to reach their full potential. We help Honors students find courses to help them advance their goals. Some courses help students pursue research opportunities in a structured and professional manner. Most courses are smaller, and offer students greater interaction with their professors.
Outside the lecture hall, opportunities abound. These can include Honors housing, recreational activities, Honor societies, and the Honors Student Organization.
